Discover the Faith received a news release/comment today from Isabel Macdonald, Communications Director of FAIR, providing FAIR’s response to the Catholic League’s article regarding the media watchdog’s “smear” of the Pope and the media coverage of his visit to the United States last month. Here is a link to the original post.

I have contacted the Catholic League, through their website, regarding this response. (I am sure that they are already aware of it). Hopefully they will respond.
From what I have read, it seems that FAIR is attacking one part of the Catholic League’s critique without actually responding to the whole of the critique, which is the fact that these documents are not a “smoking gun” for a deliberate systematic cover-up of the abuse crisis. If they are the “smoking gun”, they were the origination of the weakest attempt at a cover-up imaginable, as the documents have been publicly available for some time.
