In the coming days I am going to delve into the writings of Irenaeus of Lyon. In particular, I want to show how this Early Church Father viewed the role of Mary in the salvation story. His writings are a lens to how the early Church viewed Mary. Don’t forget that he was writing in the second century. This was early on in the Church. He did not invent the teaching, they were passed on from the beginning.
