Right now I am anticipating the start of Super Bowl. I dont really care who wins as I am a Cleveland Browns fan. While i wait, I just want to go over some thoughts I have had today.
Today at Mass Father gave a homily that kind of got me thinking a bit about some of the things that I have been discussing on another blog and here on this blog. His sermon gave a non theological answer to some of the questions that I have been asked by non Catholics. He basically stated that there is nothing that we do that merits heaven… Then he simply stated that what we Catholic do in our practices are done solely because we love Jesus. I thought that this was a perfect answer. We love Mary because we love Jesus. We love the saints because we love Jesus. We say the Rosary because we love Jesus. We do good works because we love Jesus. He did not attempt to give a theologically complex explanation, instead he kept it simple. He gave a teaching that anyone could understand. He said that we as Catholics do what we do because we love Jesus… Period! If you truly love Jesus you will do what he asks. Everything we do points to Jesus.
Now on to Astronomy.
One of my hobbies is astronomy. I have an 8 inch Orion Reflector with an Orion Atlas Mount as well as a cheap refractor. One of the reasons that I believe in God is because of astronomy. I just look at the universe and marvel at its complexities. I just cannot accept that we are just here by some accident. I think the universe is beautiful and vast but pales in comparison to the one who created it. I may post a few of my planetary photos that I have taken with my planetary imager in the future just as a change of pace. I just cant help but see God’s glory when I look at the universe through the lens of my scope.
The game should be starting soon. Everyone have a safe day!
