Often I come home from work and watch EWTN while I try to relax from a days work. The last few days they have aired an abortion rally that happened in San Francisco. The rally featured an abortion survivor, a niece of Dr. Martin Luther King and some other speakers.
One of the speakers stood out to me. I did not catch his name but the story that he told kind of hit home and is very relevant to what this website is about. He gave the story of St. Telemachus who is credited by many as having effectively ended the Roman Gladiator Games in the fifth century. Now the story that the man told was slightly different from the one I have found on the web. I am going to print the full story at the end of this post.
The main thing I wish to point out is that it took one devout Catholic Monk in the 5th century to stop the games of death. This should be an example to all Christians who value the precious life that we have been given by our Lord. They are lives that we have no right to take. It is a selfish act and it delights Satan when it occurs. The stats are stunning and sad. It is a genocide of epic proportions that hits minority groups the hardest. I am not going to ramble but please pray for all the women and young girls that feel that abortion is their only option.
Now the story of St. Telemachus:
Honorius, who inherited the empire of Europe, put a stop to the gladitorial combats which had long been held at Rome. The occasion of his doing so arose from the following circumstance. A certain man of the name of Telemachus had embraced the ascetic life. He had set out from the East and for this reason had repaired to Rome. There, when the abominable spectacle was being exhibited, he went himself into the stadium, and stepping down into the arena, endeavoured to stop the men who were wielding their weapons against one another. The spectators of the slaughter were indignant, and inspired by the triad fury of the demon who delights in those bloody deeds, stoned the peacemaker to death.
When the admirable emperor was informed of this he numbered Telemachus in the number of victorius martyrs, and put an end to that impious spectacle.”
St. Telemachus Pray for Us especially those that are affected by abortion
Good for you. I am new to this blogging idea (today
is my first day with a blog). It pleases me to see a blog right from the start that identifies with my faith and beliefs. My best to you.
Thanks for the comment. I feel it is our duty to spread the word about these kind of things. I also try to defend the faith to the best of my abilities. I just started this blog not to long ago myself, so any kind words are greatly appreciated.
