I have been in discussion with an anti-Catholic friend that seems to waiver between whether the CC is apostate or misguided. I asked if he believed in the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. He basically went on to say that he does not believe in transubstantiation. This would be fine enough but he goes on to say that he does not believe in cannibalism.
I find it ironic that today the same accusation made by Pagan Rome against the early Catholic Christians is the same accusation that is often made by Fundamentalist anti-Catholics. The same false accusations continue. This also shows the poor understanding of Catholic Doctrine that my friend and other Protestants have.
As a Catholic I take at face value John 6 and its instructions on the Eucharist and its true nature. This is the teaching of the Church since the beginning but is ignored today because it is Catholic. I will show how Ignatius believed in the real presence in a future post. This wonderful Saint died for his Faith and instructed others in that faith. He is a true treasure of the Church.
